About Iron Road
Iron Road Healthcare, formerly Union Pacific Railroad Employees Health Systems (“Iron Road”) is a not-for-profit group dedicated to serving the needs of our members and providing superior service and benefits. Coverage may be extended beyond employment through retirement and Medicare Plan services.
Goal:
Iron Road took up an legacy transformation to modernize their core pharmacy application, EPS from mainframe to latest technologies.
Business Challenge:
A key challenge was to integrate all other applications like IVR, FAX, customer portal, Optifill, Shipping, PAT and other applications to the new core system EPS and conduct an end-to-end testing to make sure the overall application was working seamlessly like before.
Challenges:
Considering there was no documentation and vastness of the application landscape, one key challenge was to understand the pharmacy applications and the workflow between the pheriperal applications and the core EPS system.
The Solution:
Y&L performed a detailed analysis on the complete application landscape, understood and documented the workflows, gathered requirements from a testing standpoint.
Once the requirements were reviewed and signed-off by the customer, Y&L created test strategy and planning documents, test cases and successfully executed the end-to-end scenarios of the application. We efficiently found a number of defects across applications, worked with Iron Road development teams, got it fixed and re-tested all of the defects. Also, the business users were trained on how to use the application and made ready for UAT.
Overall, the project was a big success because there was not a single defect that was raised during UAT.
